このフレーズを覚えたい! ワンポイントアドバイス

see (something) coming : (何かが)起こることを予期する
何かが実際に起こってしまうことを予期することを表わします。否定文として、「予想もしていなかった」といい表わすこともできます。

例)Elaineは男友達にいきなりデートに誘われビックリしています。
Elaine: I didn't see that coming at all. I didn't know he thought about me that way.
Dolores: No? I could tell he was interested in you.
Elaine: まったく予想もしていなかったわ。彼がそんな風に私のことを考えていたなんて知らなかったわ。
Dolores: そうかしら?私は彼が興味あるって知っていたわよ。

bowl over : 驚かされる
ひどく驚いたことを伝える際に使う表現です。

例)Ginnyは彼氏に思いもよらないプレゼントをもらったようです。
Ginny: Brad gave me this diamond bracelet. I was completely bowled over.
Cora: Wow, it's beautiful!
Ginny: Bradがダイヤのブレスレットをくれたのよ。本当に驚いたわ。
Cora: すごい、きれいね!

blow a fuse : ひどく腹を立てる
「ヒューズが飛ぶ」ことを表わしますが、ひどく腹が立つことを表わす際に使います。

例)Pamelaがひどくご立腹の様子です。
Pamela: You forgot to take out the garbage again! What's wrong with you?
Skye: OK, OK. Don't blow a fuse. I'm sorry.
Pamela: またゴミ出しを忘れたのね!どうしちゃったのよ?
Skye: わかった、わかった。そんなに怒るなよ。悪かったよ。


be all for (something) : (何か)を全面的にサポートする
何かに対して理解を示して、サポートする、賛成することを表わします。

例)急遽2人は海外に住むことになりました。
Juliette: I don't know if we should sell the house or just sublet it while we're overseas.
Matt: I'm all for selling.
Juliette: 家を売るべきか、海外にいる間だけ貸し出すのが良いのか分からないわ。
Matt: 売るのが良いと思うよ。

Clay: I never saw that coming.
Fred: Me neither. I was completely bowled over when he told me.
Clay: Why would he leave such a good job to join a circus? It sounds crazy.
Fred: I know, but he said it's been his dream since he was a kid.
Clay: What's his wife saying? She must have blown a fuse.
Fred: Not at all, she's all for it. She's looking forward to traveling around with him.
Clay: That's lucky for him. We should get tickets and go see his act. What's he doing anyway? Juggling?
Fred: No, lion taming!
