こんなふうに使ってみよう

Selma: Are you ready to go? Where’s Tara?
Heather: She bailed. She called me last night and said she couldn’t make it.
Selma: What? This whole road trip was her idea.
Heather: I know. She’s been really flaky lately.
Selma: What do you think’s going on?
Heather: Well, she said she had to study for finals.
Selma: That doesn’t add up. She finished her course last month.
Heather: Why would she lie to us?
Selma: I know she’s been kind of broke lately. Maybe she didn’t have enough money for the hotel and gas.
Heather: I wish she’d told me. I’d have lent her the money.

Selma: 準備はできた? Taraはどこかしら?
Heather: 彼女はやめたってさ。昨晩電話があって、来られないんだって。
Selma: え?この旅行の立案者は彼女じゃない。
Heather: そうね、最近頼りないからね。
Selma: 何があったのよ?
Heather: 実は、試験勉強をしなきゃいけないらしいのよ。
Selma: 意味が分からないわ。コースは先月で終わっているじゃない。
Heather: 彼女が嘘をついていると思うの?
Selma: 最近お金がないのよ。おそらくガソリンとかホテル代のお金が足りないのよ。
Heather: そう言ってくれればよかったのに。私がお金を貸してあげたのに。

make it=出席する、時間に間に合う
